Countdown Begins to Copperhead Baseball

All of us at STARworks are looking forward to baseball season and catching a few games at the closest ballpark to our offices - McCrary Park in Asheboro, NC. McCrary Park is home to the Copperheads of the Coastal Plain League.

I'll be honest, I know very little about the Copperheads. By way of Wikipedia I know that current major league baseball pitchers Bill Bray (Cincinnati Reds) and Dallas McPherson (Anaheim Angels) were once Copperheads. I also know that the Copperheads have a young pitcher with a lot of promise named Zach "Rudy" Brown who once struck out 11 batters in 4 innings. Baseball afficienados will be happy to know that the Coastal Plain League only uses wood bats.

There is a full schedule on the Copperhead team website and the first game of the season is May 28th at 7:05pm at McCrary Field in Asheboro. Sadly, the Copperheads will not be playing against some of the teams with excellent mascots this year such as the Edenton Steamers or the Fayetteville Swampdogs. But we do get a peek at the Columbia Blowfish and Thomasville Hitoms this summer and we'll get a look at the league's top players when McCrary Field hosts the Coastal Plain League All Star Game.
